Local Minimum Wages Rise in New Mexico

Wages Rise for 2018 in Albuquerque and Bernalillo County

The City of Albuquerque and County of Bernalillo have raised their respective minimum wage rates for 2018.

Albuquerque
Effective January 1, 2018, the minimum wage in Albuquerque will be $8.95 per hour. However, the minimum wage will be $7.95 per hour if the employee's employer provides healthcare and/or childcare benefits to the employee during any pay period and the employer pays an amount for these benefits equal to or in excess of $2,500.00 annually.

The 2018 Albuquerque minimum wage for tipped employees will be $5.35 per hour.

Bernalillo County
Effective January 1, 2018, the minimum wage in Bernalillo County will be $8.85 per hour. This wage increase affects employees who work within the unincorporated area of Bernalillo County, outside of the city limits. For employers who provide healthcare and/or childcare benefits to an employee during any pay period for which the employer pays an amount for those healthcare benefits equal to or in excess of an annualized cost of $2,500.00, the minimum wage for that employee is an hourly rate of $1.00 less than the current minimum wage otherwise applicable to employees who do not receive such benefits.

For tipped employees, the minimum hourly wage is expected to remain at the federal minimum wage of $2.13 per hour.
